Follow along with us on our Adventures

Its all about the cruising, sailing, snorkeling and adventures anywhere on the water! We will be posting links to our videos of our travels and adventures cruising on our 1987 Morgan 41 OI Classic "Firefly".

We are a couple that loves to travel especially adventures on water. My husband is a Pirate! He became the "Pirate Man" in 2009 due to an accident to his right eye. So instead of being down about his situation we have fully embraced it. So come along with us on our Adventures and ask us any questions you may have.

What a beautiful morning! Woke up to flat calm seas so couldn't resist sitting and taking photos. Came under the bridge to the Atlantic to find flat, calm, and crystal clear waters. So a gorgeous day, although no sailing, to go to some reefs!

So where have we been, and why have there been no new videos? This is our why....Just over a year ago, we took on working for Boy Scouts of America at their High Adventure Base called Sea Base. This lets us live our lives on our sailboat and give something back to our youth.

So what are we doing? For the right now, we have our boat in charter with BSA. We are taking scouts out on our boat, teaching them to sail, fish, snorkel, and enjoy life on a boat for a few days at a time. These are just a few pictures and clips from the first half of our season. It has proven to be so rewarding working with these Scouts and their leaders whether on our boat or on land at the camp.

So, for now, I will try to keep posting some clips of our experiences while protecting our scouts. Maybe I will figure out how to put together some more videos at a later date. For now, we are enjoying the moments and the good days!

Took boat out for a shake down since we have added new anchor chain and markers, new radar and new chartplotter. Haven't had boat out of slip since December. Was nice to go out and sail some, run through some tacks, motor, setting anchor a couple times, and I even got in a very good snorkel. Motored back to slip since I have to work tomorrow. Next plan is a couple overnights out exploring some reefs. Today we were just in Matecumbe Bight and snorkeled the quarry there. Thanks to another Seabase Captain for instructions on the quarry.

Top winds today was 9 knots and top speed over ground sailing was 3 knots. Been a Great Day!

We started working on all the teak on the boat a couple weeks ago. Other than the very back pieces we removed all from the deck, sanded, rebonded to deck and refinished with Total Boat Gleem gloss. Made such a huge difference in the look. The teak has needed done since we bought boat just took us time to get to it. Slowly getting projects done on the boat and ready for charter.

Other project was adding flexiteak to the pass-through to aft cabin and in the Vberth area to match the cockpit.

After a couple of months of being on anchor or in Marina and working 6 days a week or bad weather, we finally found a chance to go out with the boat. Today did not disappoint! We had 8 to 10 knots of wind on our beam today with both sales out and we sailed at 3 to 4.9knts. Found a spot to anchor for awhile and get into the water. Did some bottom maintenance cleaning and some swimming. Then had a great sail back to Marina. Just the break we have been needing. Hopefully we will get more chances in the coming couple months to do more day sails.we love how our boat sails and handles through the water!

Hello, we are Dwight and Kelly, otherwise known as Pirate Time Sailing Adventures. Some of you all know us already, but there may be some of you that dont. We have started this journey to learn how to sail, navigate, and explore the water world on our Morgan 41. We have been doing repairs and upgrades but finally have taken off and out sailing and exploring our way down and around the Florida Keys. We are trying to grow our channel, and we are open to any advice or comments on our videos. We are learning the ropes with editing and filming.

I will post our latest episode below. This episode we inadvertently ends up in a boat race with a catamaran to Key Biscayne. It was all for fun but definitely added to the journey. We have some difficulties with our sail and engine but end up finding a small old town on the water just before dropping anchor. Watch to see if our monohull can beat the catamaran.

Started our morning just outside Long Key and finally made it to what I call the halfway point of the Keys! Marathon or specifically Boot Key Anchorage. Will spend a couple days here before heading to Bahia Honda State Park to go into their Marina. This is all in Preparation of me flying home in a week to visit family and celebrate a very special little boys Birthday! We will be back to Marathon after I get back to do some exploring.

Started our morning just outside Long Key and finally made it to what I call the halfway point of the Keys! Marathon or specifically Boot Key Anchorage. Will spend a couple days here before heading to Bahia Honda State Park to go into their Marina. This is all in Preparation of me flying home in a week to visit family and celebrate a very special little boys Birthday! We will be back to Marathon after I get back to do some exploring.

Dwight woke me to come see the beautiful sunrise this morning with the sliver of the moon still showing. We had a beautiful motor sail down yesterday to this anchor stop on our way south. We will depart here today and hopefully get some sailing in as we work our way down to Lower Matacombe key south of Islamorada. We will be spending some time in those two areas exploring and hiding from some wind which seems to be the program down here. Ready to get some exploring done on land and in water soon!

This morning, we woke to small sailboats heading to a start line for a Regatta right by our boat and a huge pod of dolphins this morning. We left No Name Harrbor today and headed further south towards Key Largo. We are still in Biscayne Bay at Pumpkin Key. Pumpkin key is a private island and just a stop over spot for us. May duck around the island tomorrow to hide from different direction winds that are coming for a couple of days. Then we will head farther south. Currently, only boat here in 10 ft of water and 85 to 90 ft of chain and anchor out and set. Hoping for a quiet night!

New video out. This time we get on our friends 45 ft Catamaran as Crew to help take boat from Ft Pierce Fl to Ft Lauderdale FL so they can get some warranty work done. We are really along to document and help if needed but main purpose was to just hang out and have fun. We had a great trip even with the rough waters on first leg. We did learn that we still prefer a monohull over a Catamaran. There are pros and cons to both but the difference in sailing and movement is key for us on our monohull. So give the video a look and laugh along with us as we get to have some fun along the way!

We have We have left ft lauderdale this morning. We picked up a marina overnight and waited for daylight for the drawbridge openings since only 1/2 of bridge us opening. Gave us a beautiful sunrise out the port Everglades entance. We are still having to motor sail at the moment, but I'm hoping to get to get all sails out today! Key Biscayne is our destination today!

Yesterday, while on anchor, we had some strong winds. We had moved spots in Anchorage due to a fouled anchor and dragging early in the morning, but we like our new spot. While moving anchor our buddy boat almost got run over by a big yacht. Got a little rough with the waves and wind rocking the boat, but we held steady. Then the winds calmed down, and we had a nice sunset. This morning, I did a trash run with the dinghy early, and we have just been hanging out on boat, taking it easy today. There were fewer winds but very cloudy today and had some sprinkles. Learning to enjoy anchor life and learning every day.

Not how I thought my day would go today when I went to bed last night. Woke up at 3 am in pain with little to no movement without severe pain. Dwight said at 2 am my arm was really tucked up under me strangely. Needless to say, I have inflammation of the main tendon off my left shoulder. Probably was just the final straw on tendon from the weeks of work on the boat. Most pain i have experienced in a very long time. So I get to wear this sling for a few weeks along with rest, medication, and some exercises to help build up after the rest. Tough when we were planning on leaving the dock in next week or so. We are not sure what this does for us leaving as our boat is not easily handled by 1 person under power, much less under sail. May have to delay departure again for a few weeks. So disheartening, but we will prevail!

So 2023 was a very interesting year for us. As I reflected last night and today over the past year, it just seems to have flown by. There have been so many changes and happenings that it seems unreal. The year started off with the loss of Dwight's dad, who was a great man. He was such an integral part of our life for the last 8 years plus while we lived with and took care of him. It was such a hard thing to start the year with. Then we became grandparents to the greatest little boy. It is so hard to describe that feeling of being a grandparent. So much more than a parent. Maybe it's because you get to see your child become a parent. He has been a huge joy to our year. The next thing was choosing to let go of Dwight's dad's farm and not buy it. It had been where we lived a large part of our marriage and Dwight his life. We loved the farm but it was not an option for us to buy it. So, instead, we completely changed our lives and bought a sailboat and moved on to it. It has been one of those dreams we have had for over 20 years! Such an incredible feeling! And today, as we prep to leave the Marina we have been at for the last 3 months getting the boat ready was just like Wow we are really doing this. So our year 2024 is all about adventure and chasing our dreams for once in our lives. To say we are excited is an understatement! We will miss everyone at home, including our kids, grandson, and my Dad, but we are so excited to see what this dream truly intales for us. It had been where we lived a large part of our marriage and Dwight his life. We loved the farm but it was not an option for us to buy it. So, instead, we completely changed our lives and bought a sailboat and moved on to it. It has been one of those dreams we have had for over 20 years! Such an incredible feeling! And today, as we prep to leave the Marina we have been at for the last 3 months getting the boat ready was just like Wow we are really doing this. So our year 2024 is all about adventure and chasing our dreams for once in our lives. To say we are excited is an understatement! We will miss everyone at home, including our kids, grandson, and my Dad, but we are so excited to see what this dream truly intales for us. So here is to hoping everyone can chase and make come true their DREAMS come true in 2024! Happy New Year from sunny south Florida!

Beginning the provisioning to go offshore while in Ky where prices are a little cheaper. This is the 3rd stop of 4 to get what we think we need for the next 3 to 6 months. Fun part will be finding a home for all of it on the boat! Sams club for dry goods, can goods, snacks, chips, water, and toiletries. Kroger for can cokes and liquor barn for some spirits. Last stop will be back in Florida at the boat for cold foods and meats.
